Summary

Today's message reminded us that God's word is a timeless truth. It never changes and, along with the Holy Spirit, it guides us on the right path throughout our lives. We are truly blessed by his word.

Sermon

We viewed a sermon by Dr. Charles Stanley that discusses how the Bible serves as a spiritual compass for life's journey, similar to a physical compass that always points north. Just as a physical compass provides direction, the Bible always points towards God and the right path.

Dr. Charles Stanley highlighted several ways the Bible, specifically Proverbs chapter 3, guides individuals:

  • Moral Guidance: The Bible acts as a moral guide in an immoral world, keeping individuals on the right path (6:55). Neglecting it can lead to trouble and confusion (7:35).

  • Kindness and Truth: The compass of the Bible always points towards being kind, considerate, thoughtful, and truthful (8:12). This kindness attracts others to Christ (8:43).

  • Trust in God: It directs believers to trust in God completely, not relying on their own understanding (9:54). Not trusting God is seen as an insult to his trustworthiness (10:46).

  • Seeking God's Will: The Bible leads individuals to acknowledge God in all aspects of their lives, seeking him and his will in every decision (12:06). God knows all pitfalls and temptations on our path (13:25).

  • Obedience: The compass always points to obedience, as God has a plan for each life that leads to the best, even through difficulties that build character (14:33). Disobedience leads to disappointment and self-destruction (17:05).

  • Financial Wisdom: It provides guidance on honoring God with wealth, abilities, talents, skills, and opportunities (17:19). Honoring God in finances is crucial for receiving his blessings (18:20).

  • Accepting God's Discipline: The compass points to accepting God's reproof and discipline, understanding that it comes from his love and is for our benefit, guiding us back to His path (19:19).

Bible Verses

Proverbs 3:1-12 ‭NIV‬‬

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. My son, do not despise the Lord ’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
